God has a purpose for me that will bring glory unto HIM. He has chosen me for the things He wills to be done.

*** Answers to the question, "Was this lesson helpful to you? Why or why not?" ***

"By far the most valuable thing I have learned in this lesson is that God uses the trials in our life for our good. By responding to them in faith knowing that God is using the trials in our lives to fashion us into the person He wants us to be, then we will see His purpose and find comfort and joy in the midst of them. Praise God!"

Yes, all of the lessons are helpful. They give me something Godly to do.

Yes, anytime I work these lessons I become closer to the Lord. I learn the truer meaning which I really need a lot of work on. I do need to forgive more in my life and not hold grudges against my foes. I'll work on this. Matthew 18:1-35 will be read again I know!

Yes, I now have a better view of how easy it can be to witness to others and not be discouraged by some who do not see the way yet.

Yes, I have learned how to use the word of God to live my life His way and to have joy and peace and happiness. I know that I will have eternal life with Him.

Yes, It reminded me that not all are of the faith and the Lord is faithful to establish and guard us from Satan. I stand on this promise and believe God will establish me in my life. God will enable me to provide for myself and my responsibilities. I also trust God to guard me from Satan, helping me to resist temptation to sin. I trust God to grant me the strength and wisdom to follow where HE leads me. I don't have to do it myself!

*** Answers to the question, "What are your prayer requests?" ***

I pray for forgiveness and humbleness and wisdom. I believe my life is full of blessings to give as I learn a new chapter in my life with the Lord. I want to live righteously.

Prayer that I continue to put God 1st in my life.

My wife was being wrongly influenced by a woman friend. She was living in a bad situation. My wife is now removed from that house and living in Salvation Army women's mission. I had just gotten word from my wife's whereabouts when I received your beautiful prayer for my wife and I. THANK YOU!

*** Answers to the first quiz item in the third lesson, "Please share a story about how God has answered a prayer of yours." ***

I was shot in the chest some years ago. The doctors said that I was lucky because I was in good shape and I lived. I could not move my arm for about 8 months. They said I would not be able to use my arm again. But I prayed, my family prayed, and the church members prayed and the Lord answered!

God has answered many a prayer for me. Since I have been here, God has kept my family out of harm's way and blessed them abundantly.

Before I became a Christian I was completely confused about my beliefs. My relationships with others were difficult too. Now I constantly include Jesus in my conversations. If I feel something is wrong, He convicts me. If I feel that I'm not where I need to be, I leave. Satan got me caught up in his trap and I got out because Jesus saved me. And now I try my best to smile to show others that God is in my heart.

I turned my life over to God when I went to jail 4 years ago. I included myself in a Christian group which did Bible studies every night. At that point I knew God was with me. And I knew in my mind and heart that God was knocking at my door. It took me going to jail to become a Christian because the Lord's prayer reminded me of my Grandmother who used to say it often. I was close to her and when you end up in an unpredictable place you begin missing family.

*** Answers to the question, "Was this lesson helpful to you? Why or why not?" ***

Yes, it gave me the opportunity to really think deep into the scripture and I was able through the power of the Holy Spirit, decipher the Word of God, and by the same token, I was able to break down and explain it to the best of my ability. Praise God something new! Prayer is awesome!

Yes, Because it showed me that we can't be selfish of what to ask God for. We should think about others before we think about ourselves and to be thankful that God gives us everything we need. He knows what we are in need of and when. God is in control.

Yes, It taught me to be humble. I caught myself praying in front of people before God and for myself just to look good now and in the past.

Yes, I've been wondering if I have been praying correctly. Now I understand more about praying.

Yes, the more knowledge I gain about Christ, my mind grows stronger in the Lord which restrains anxiety.

Yes, of course. But it's something of the basics. I can't wait to keep doing these lessons so I can learn way more. I have a feeling it's what I'll be doing the rest of my life.

*** Answers to the question, "What are your prayer requests?" ***

Continual strength to keep my eyes, ears, mind and heart on Jesus in everything and everyone I come in contact with.

Pray for this old world, that all the lost will get Jesus Christ in their life before it is too late. Because I do believe we are in our last days. 2nd Timothy 3:1

*** Answers to the first quiz item in the third lesson, "Please share a story about how God has answered a prayer of yours." ***

He led a friend of mine to the altar one Sunday and she confessed Jesus as her savior that day and was saved.

I've been praying that my brother would be brought closer to my mom, and would try to spend more time with her. Since I've been praying my brother has invited my mom to his house and my mother has stayed overnight with him, and her grandchildren. God is awesome and he always answers our prayers, when it is His will.

Well, here lately, I've been stressed out over family problems. I prayed to God and gave my problems over to Him. He has given me strength to manage them.

He has been watching over my baby boy while I've been doing bad things and while I'm in here.

I asked God for protection and when there was a lot of fighting in here, he protected me from it all. And I have asked for strength for me and my family and we've gotten stronger each day.

*** Answers to the question, "Was this lesson helpful to you? Why or why not?" ***

"It helped me to realize that I must know God's Word in order to fight off the devil."

"Yes. I must admit that prayer is my weak point. This study has helped me see the reasons and meanings behind prayers. I will re-read this lesson again."

"Yes, I learned more powerful words that my Saviour spoke to people. It helped me to realize that He can only just speak and things will fall in line."

"Yes, cause I realize that I'm slow, very slow, sometimes on forgiving my brothers and finding myself judging others."

*** Answers to the question, "What are your prayer requests?" ***

"When my father in Ohio was about to have heart surgery, I asked for a safe trip there. It is a long drive and I was by myself. I also asked for my father's health. I had a safe trip. My father's health has slowly improved. I still pray for him."

Well, I wanted to find some way to help support your efforts even thought I don’t have access to “real money” at this time. So, I thought I could try to order extra stamps from time to time which will help defray the cost of postage of the Bible lessons. So, I have included some stamps. I am assuming that it is all right for inmates to help support a religious ministry that ministers to them. If it isn’t, please let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to write me a letter back! As you probably know it is really great to hear your name called at mail call, especially when I hear it is from y'all.

Again, I really appreciate everything you and Trish and everyone else does for me and all the guys who meet on Tuesday nights.

I thank God for you all, your help and assistance has truly guided me back home to read and studying the Bible. That’s what I want. That’s what I need. Thank you.

*** Answers to the question, "Was this lesson helpful to you? Was this lesson helpful to you? Why or why not?" ***

Of course this lesson was helpful to me. This lesson reminded me that because I’m saved and baptized in Christ I can’t return to the darkness. I want to remain in fellowship with Christ as my Savior. He died for me, therefore I shall remember to die everyday for Him.

Yes, I think and know this lesson, just as well as all the other lessons are helpful, but this one I liked because it made me use my remembrances and reciting skills.

Yes, because every lesson that is sent to me high lights different things and it all helps me to understand God’s word better.

That Satan is not all knowing or all powerful regardless of how much he would have us believe otherwise.

That so many people need “so” much proof and convincing that God is real. I stop saying I’m lucky, or coincidences. Because I can’t put my faith in things that are “maybes”.

Doing lessons in Genesis is like reading a soap opera. At first I was bored but it started getting interesting.

Yes! It helped me to find verses for prayer for my dad whom is sick in the hospital again.

While reading 2nd Samuel I had never seen how devastating one sin was before. David’s sin with Bathsheba had long lasting consequences. I am finding a very similar thing happening with me.

*** Answers to the question, "What are your prayer requests?" ***

Thanks giving to the Lord for all the wisdom and knowledge He bestows upon us at the right times. AMEN

That we all focus more on the positive. We have God’s understanding and wisdom and love in us and on our minds.

I just continue to say Thank God for the Love Bible Study group. You are my friends and family. Thank you Mr. Thor and Mrs. Trish and all the people helping in the ministry. God bless you all. AMEN

*** Answers to the first quiz item in the third lesson, "Please share a story about how God has answered a prayer of yours." ***

I have good news. I took my final exam in my Equine vocational class on Friday and I got a perfect score on it. I will receive a 6 month time out for completing the class.

About 2 months ago my mom was about to lose her house and I asked God to please help her save her house. About a week after I prayed continually about it, it happened. Now she doesn’t have to worry about it any more.

He has answered prayers. By a lot of ways. Letting me have a free life even though in prison.

I have prayed to get a position [job] in here [jail] so I could work and God blessed me with that work in the mornings from 8:00-2:00 and back to work from 3:30-10:00. I thank God for that!

[-------------- Everything below this line published 1/20/09 -------------]

I had a drinking problem. I received my 4th DUI and they sent me to prison. Since being here I realized I had a problem. I reached a point I couldn’t handle any more. I asked God to come back into my life and help me. Since then I’ve passed my GED. I just see things different. I have 3 kids that miss me, and I don’t want anything more than to be the daddy they deserve. I now know through God I can do anything.

Well, the doors to the prison here have never just opened on their own, but if they were to open like they did then, I would be like Paul and Silas. I would not leave. I hate it here, but I would not escape. God has better plans for me.

*** Answers to the question, "Was this lesson helpful to you? Why or why not?" ***

Yes, there is someone that cares out there! I learned that I need to memorize scripture more.

Yes, Just to be nearer to God.

Yes, It seems like every lesson I do or every time I read my Bible I learn something different every time. That’s what I like about all this.

Yes, I noticed when I prayed last night while working on my lesson #2 Savior, I noticed the feeling inside has come back and know it is through these lessons. Thank you!

Yes, because it explains how we have to be careful of getting caught up in the worldly things and get pulled away from the teaching of Jesus.

*** Answers to the question, "What are your prayer requests?" ***

Although I am innocent and the man who actually is guilty of this charge that I am in on is out and free, God has given me the strength I need to forgive and I have moved on. I’m ready to pick up the pieces of my life and move forward. I need your prayers.

*** Answers to the first quiz item in the third lesson, "Please share a story about how God has answered a prayer of yours." ***

I prayed and asked God for knowledge and wisdom and to fill me with the spirit of truth so I could be great in the bible and the studying of it. Since then I have become very advanced in the Bible, and my life has changed drastically. I don’t cuss or hate like I used to. I am growing stronger by the minute.

"Pray so I can get strong in the word of God. I study every day and I want to do God's business and preach God's word to everyone who believes in Him. I want you to pray that God use me to teach His word, because I have bible study here in jail and I want God to use me to preach His words in Christ Jesus."

"I really need to thank God for helping me change."

"As Christians we must stand and do what the Bible says, not what we think. A church with one heart and mind will make for a won world."

"Truth is an excellent thing."

"Before I became a Christian I was one of the meanest persons you did not want to know. I used foul language, sold drugs and guns, chased after women. I treated women with the most disrespect I could. I was a big time liar. It seemed I was always mad at everyone, did not trust anyone, and hated everything. I loved money more than my own kids. I just did not care whether I lived or died. One reason I became a Christian was coming to prison. Being away from my family and losing everything made me realize I was taking everything for granted. I was tired of hurting those that loved me no what I did, and tired of being unhappy. I wanted that peace in my life that I had seen in the Christian brothers that were locked up with me. They told me that I could have that joy in my heart that they have with Jesus. So when it seemed like everyone started turning their backs on me; all my friends, and some of my family, I was so sick and tired, I thought about suicide. But God spared me. I once was blind but now I see. Praise God. The Lord has put love in my heart. He has put my kid's mother back in my life and now we are married. The trust is back with no more fighting. Praise God. I have a better relationship with my kids. I no longer use profanity. I now smile instead of frowning all the time. I respect everybody around me. He has put joy in my heart and my mind has been renewed. I do not think about how I can hurt people or scam to get money. I trust fully on the Lord. Even when trouble comes my way, I still keep my eyes on Him and praise Him. Thank You Lord for giving me another chance and loving me when I was a sinner. Amen."

*** Answers to the question, "Was this lesson helpful to you? Why or why not?" ***

"Yes, it was because I got time to talk to God, meditate more, and it's good."

"I feel that anything that inspires me to open up my bible and to get into the word is very helpful."

I learned "that Christ is always looking out for us, and wants us to keep His commandments, and praise Him in everything we do."

"I would like to wish you and yours a merry Christmas!"

*** Answers to the question, "Was this lesson helpful to you? Why or why not?" ***

"Yes! Discussion about the word of God by writing it out seems to help things to sink in deeper."

I learned that "He loves us unconditionally."

"It helped me understand that, knowing I am God's servant and through God's love I am saved, is the greatest gift of all, and we come to know these things only through the Holy Spirit."

"Yes, it helped me to see that we all sin."

"It floors me how much information about God's plan is actually packed in these first 10 verses that we are liable to simply skim through as the introduction of the letter. That is the difference with the Divine Scriptures - each verse has great purpose."

"Yes, because it has shown me that I should pray without limitation."

"I learned how to better understand what I am reading by using other scriptures about the same topic, like how using the concordance in the back of the Bible you sent me might give me a better understanding of something I'm reading about. I learned that God is not impressed with our arrogance and pride. I learned that He hates cruelty, dishonest, and not repenting. I learned that God keeps His promises."

"Yes, because it made me read many different parts of the Bible."

The devil is clever "and can make things look and seem good for you. You really have to be on guard, because he is tricky and scheming. That his specialty."

"You have given me a lot to meditate on in the Bible, especially the Old Testament."

*** Answers to the question, "What are your prayer requests?" ***

"When I was on the outside I prayed to God for help to be free from drugs and their effect on me. He did not answer my prayer the way I thought or how I would have liked. He did answer my prayer by sending me someplace where I couldn't get drugs so easily - prison."

"I have prayed continuously to moved back to my old pod so I could be with my Christian friends. Nothing seemed to be happening and I kept worrying about it all the time until one night I prayed to God saying that if it be His will for me to stay or be moved I would not worry about it any more. I decided to just give it up to God and let Him decide what would happen. The next morning they moved me back to my old pod."

"Growing up I was a very bad influence on my little sister. She really loves me and since I thought the things I said and did were cool, that for her to do and say those things would make her cool also. After finding Jesus and the Holy Spirit convicting me of present and even past deeds I knew I had to do something. I witnessed to her, and then prayer and prayed for that seed to be watered and burst into life. Praise God my natural sister is now my spiritual sister in Jesus, too."

[-------------- Everything below this line published 12/9/08 -------------]

"I pray that God strengthen your ministry."

Answering question, "What did you learn from our study of 2nd Kings that will be useful in your life?" he said, "God is in control."

Same question, different lesson: "I was one to not face doubt, when it comes up in my mind. I just look over it. Now I know that I have to deal with doubt right then and there to overcome that doubt. When in doubt, I must go to the Word about it to reassure myself, that those doubts have no control over me. It's just Satan trying to get my mind off of God and His Word."

"I thought this was a very good lesson. It helps to learn the books of the Bible when you start searching for answers."

Answering the question, "What is your 'favorite' miracle of Jesus and why?" he said, "When he raised Lazarus from the dead, because it just goes to show you that if you have faith, that all things are possible through Christ."

The Bible lessons by mail "have all helped bring me closer to God."

Answering the question, "Was this lesson helpful to you?" he said, "Yes. It let me release some feelings onto paper that I have never been able to let go before. I do not socialize well, because I do not know how to talk to people, but through writing I can communicate and express true feelings."

Another answer to the same question, "It helped me in the sense of understanding how I was in darkness, when I thought God had ignored my cry for help. But now I realize He put me in places like this so that He could open up my eyes and see that He never left me. I'm the one that ignored Him. I'm wiser now."

Another answer to the same question, "It has given me insight into walking with the Lord and being free from the bondage of sin."

I learned that "it is never too late to accept the Lord as your Savior. By believing, we are living testimonies of his blessings and love for us."

"Tell Trish, Thor, Tom, Lee and Mark 'Hello' for me, and that they are all in my prayers."

I did not have time to gather encouraging quotes this week, but I got one today that really blessed my heart.

In lesson 5 of the Basic Christianity course we ask this question: Read the story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16:22-30. Compare their stay in jail with your stay in jail.

This is an answer I got today: "Well, I think Paul's stay in jail was a little less up to codes than ours here at CCA. Just as his jail was probably nasty and filthy, so was my mind and soul when I first came to jail. It had been that way for a long time. As I praise God, He has shaken the earth, and broken the walls, and opened the doors in the prison in my mind, freeing me from me. I have been my prison. My life has been a prison, and now that I am free of me, I hope that my life can be a testimony to someone and bring them to Christ."

"After I accepted my plea bargain, my grand parents quit talking to me or writing me. I prayed and asked God to allow my grandparents to understand why I accepted the plea, and for them to communicate with me again. That prayer was recently answered after almost a year."

"This lesson was very helpful to me. It taught me a lot and also made me a little more knowledgeable about the God I serve."

"I love doing these study courses."

"All is possible through Him, and only Him."

"Yes, this lesson was helpful to me, because I want to grow in Jesus Christ."

"I am happy for this Bible study. It will help me know, trust, and have faith in the Lord, all over again."

"Every lesson you send me furthers my knowledge and opens my eyes wider about Our Lord and Savior."

"This lesson has been a big help in my life. I now see how to ask the Holy Spirit to help me understand what I am reading in the Bible."

"In this lesson I learned how to forgive others."

I have been too busy this week to collect quotes from the lessons so here is something I have posted on my wall from last summer: "I have begun letting my guard down to hear your sermons. They all seem to mean more than just preaching or teaching, but more like messages. Your sermons were like a strong rope to pull me out of a dark hole of a faithless and fake world. I've done many things in my past, that I truly regret, but now I don't feel alone. I still feel every word of your sermons reach my Spirit. Don't ever change that. You do reach us, no matter how deep or dark our circumstances are. Most might forget, but a precious few you did reach will not. I assure you, I will always be thankful in meeting your and your wife. That was a blessing in itself. From your faithful servant, and brother in Christ Jesus. God bless you all and thank you. " 8/8/2008

I used to go to church. Me and my cousins used to play tic-tac-toe while the preacher was preaching, and we used to try to talk to females, so I never paid no attention. But after reading and studying this lesson with (another inmate) I know that God loves me and has a plan for my life. 10/30/2008

"Thank God for you. I humbly respect and honor your ministry. You just don't know the impact that you have on my life right now. It may not seem like it's very much because I'm sure you hear the same stories over and over by inmates. I am a born again Christian being saved 21 years now. I got very upset with God, and my fellow Christian brothers in Christ. (Long story) I felt that I should have been found innocent and gone home. I felt I should have gotten more support from my fellow Christians, the ones I know well. But you have showed love and faithful support in the word. I can't express the joy I feel. I needed this because I almost have up. But now I'm fully energized and ready. That is why I keep on writing back!" 10/24/08

In the lesson about Christian Fellowship we got this answer to the question "Was this lesson helpful to you?" Yes, because I now see why my preacher got the whole church involved in my sinful ways. Report of answered prayer: "My current legal situation I think is my best prayer that was answered. I done something that just was horrible, and I did not understand. I knew I would end up caught, so I went to another town and checked into a motel room, so I can be alone. I got on my knees and cried for forgiveness and vowed to walk His way. I asked Him to help me to do that, to allow Christians to come to me and show me what to do. I returned to my home town and my best friend's wife invited me to church, and I quickly said yes. After being arrested, the majority of the people I met were Christians. A local church came to minister to us. I was put in a cell with a Christian man. I have prayed to be kept safe while in prison, and I have. Since I've been here I have met many Christians. Even the teacher of our program was a Christian. How's that for answered prayer? God is the best!" 10/13/2008
